SCALA overhauls benchmarking offering to offer businesses access to world-class industry insights

SCALA has enhanced and systemised its industry-leading annual benchmarking service, to assist businesses in better serving their customers amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis.

SCALA’s annual benchmarking service allows businesses of all sizes to compare performance with similar and competing organisations from their own market sector and complementary industries. The service compares more than 40 key performance indicators (KPIs), including forecasting, inventory, customer service, primary and secondary transport, warehousing costs, and performance ratios.

Having been honed and built upon over nearly two decades, SCALA’s benchmarking offering has now been fully-systemised through a new partnership with SaaS cloud analytics platform KWEEVO. Through this partnership, SCALA Best Practice members will have access to a customised dashboard, fed by a robust automated data pipeline, driving instant insight generation and eliminating long and complex manual data operations.

Access to the Benchmarking service is offered to all SCALA’s Best Practice members, which currently comprise more than 30 leading organisations across the grocery, homeware and home appliance industries. The benchmarking service offers Best Practice members the capability to identify the areas in which they, and businesses across their industry, are currently performing well, as well as where there is room for improvement, such as efficiencies of supply, costs and levels of service.

Scott Whiffin, director of supply chain, Kärcher (U.K.) Ltd, commented: “Amidst continued industry headwinds in the home appliance sector, such as the ongoing cost of living crisis, putting a real squeeze on consumer finances, these avenues where we can compare notes with our peers and see opportunities for cost savings and growth have truly never been more valuable.

“These clear, data-led benchmarks of where we fit into our industry, covering both the areas in which we already excel, and those where we have room to improve, are extremely useful for navigating an increasingly turbulent market. So many of our industries’ top performing businesses sharing valuable data, freely available for us to view, analyse and take action on at a glance, is a real source of reassurance as we approach the busiest time of the year for many.”

John Perry, managing director at SCALA, said: “Supply chains have faced a virtually unprecedented barrage of challenges over the past few years, from the COVID-19 pandemic, to Brexit-related complications, through to ongoing geopolitical disruption. The industry’s sterling response to these challenges has only further emphasised that collaboration between peers is essential if businesses are to continue to weather these headwinds and deliver the same excellent levels of service to which their customers have become accustomed.

“Our work with Kweevo has enabled us to make a major step forward, further enhancing our capability to provide our Best Practice members with a comprehensive range of meaningful comparisons both between companies and year on year, clearly showing them where savings can be made, and growth opportunities leveraged, amidst the continued squeeze on consumer buying power.”
