SCALA no longer run the fresh connection as a UK competition. However SCALA does provide independent objective expertise in supply chain strategy and the “end to end” management of total supply chains.
SCALA’s Fresh Connection competition concluded earlier this week, following an intense UK Global Grand Final at Whittlebury Hall, Northamptonshire.
International brand giant, Mondelēz, admirably stole the supply chain champion title from last year’s winners, Kimberly-Clark, with an excellent 9% ROI. Mondelēz followed in the footsteps of Cadbury, who took the winning crown four years ago.
During the UK Finals, Kimberly-Clark appeared to be untouchable once again; however, fierce competition from Mondelēz “Team Fruitelez” meant that Kimberly-Clark did not manage to take the top spot, taking a very admirable second-place.
Competition category winners included Top Service Provider – Awarded to Norbert Dentressangle “Team Concentr8” who had the highest improvement of ROI throughout the competition. The team clawed their way back from a shockingly low -32% ROI back in April to a very exciting 7.76% ROI, putting them in third place in the competition. The Top Retailer award went to Waitrose “Team Delia”
UK Fresh Connection Ambassador, Keith Newton has stated that this year’s competition was “the toughest and most challenging yet, with more teams than ever fighting for their place to represent the UK at the International Finals in Dubai.”
“There has been a diverse and impressive range of companies taking part this year, and it is particularly inspiring to see, again, so many females taking part, as our sector and other logistics events have, and can be male dominated.”
“This competition has highlighted the skills and abilities of many young up-and-coming supply chain and logistics professionals, who have been supported and mentored by senior level staff members. A huge ‘congratulations’ is in order to all who have taken part”.
The Fresh Connection is a global professional challenge, with an exciting and practical application of concepts such as supply chain segmentation and forecasting product demand for customer volume. The competition is based on the concept of a failing juice manufacturing company and since the competition commenced in April, teams have been facing tough challenges such as dealing with the effects of earthquakes, staffing strikes, product defects and faced penalties for CO2 emissions.
The Fresh Connection is run by SCALA Consulting, partnered with Toyota MHE and in association with the FSDF, CILT and the NOVUS Trust.
The UK champions fly to Dubai in September to compete against the top 10 teams from the world. The winning team at the Dubai Global Finals will receive a place on a prestigious Executive Course at the MIT in Boston.
A huge thank-you to all who took part this year…
