The SCALA UK finals of the Fresh Connection Competition took place on the 7th July where the top teams from a field of over 40 were pitted against each other to take the title of Supply Chain Champions 2011. Participants of SCALA’s highly acclaimed business simulation included finalists Jordans & Ryvita, Kimberly Clark, Accolade Wines and Muller Brands. However, in third place came the Swiss Log and Heinz team, followed by second place La Pallet Rouge, and finally the clear winners, Mars UK.
Mars UK, who had topped the rankings coming into the final, kept up their impressive performance with a winning return on investment of 27.35%. Last years champions, Cadbury, who were unable to attend, had also dominated competition indicating the particular strength and emphasis placed on communication and the Supply Chain in the confectionary market. Indeed the Mars UK team commented that the simulation was a “challenging test of decision making, commercial awareness and learning agility that requires each individual to understand the impact of their role on the profitability of the whole business.”
The programme which is being run globally has also seen winners Bavaria in the Netherlands, Siegwerk Farben in Germany, Volvo in Belgium, Philip Morris in Austria and Volition in South Africa. The International Final will be held in September in Pisa, Italy, where the Mars UK team will compete with their trip provided courtesy of SCALA.
The Fresh Connection was supported by the AEB Advanced Global Trade Solutions, Slimstock, Spring Global Mail and Wincanton.
