For most companies it is useful to be able to compare operational methods and practice with their peers. This enables an understanding of what constitutes supply chain best practice within their sector but also establishes links between individual supply chain managers. SCALA has established a Supply Chain Best Practice Forum with a current membership of 18 companies within the food sector.
The approach was based around an early and detailed understanding of the way the business operated, followed by careful analysis of the previous year's sales and stock data. This created an insight into product seasonality, stock levels, order profiles and quantities and labour and equipment levels.
The Forum provides companies the opportunity to openly discuss current issues with each other and to provide a broader view of what is going on within the sector. It has also proved to be an ideal platform to explore and set up collaboration within the supply chain, enabling companies to share resources to their mutual benefit and to the overall benefit of their supply chain sustainability targets.
