This highly successful home and garden retail centre which won the 2010 Garden Centre of the Year competition has a product range of over 40,000 SKUs from plants and garden equipment through to conservatories, home furnishings, giftware, books, Edinburgh Woolen Mills, Pets Corner and a Food Hall and high quality Restaurant.
The business provides a customer collection, home delivery and a self-drive service but with business expanding year on year the logistics supply was under constant pressure.
The initial review identified:
- - Facilities unable to fulfil the back-up storage and supply operations to retail shelf
- - Congestion due to poor storage layout
- - Poor stock management and accuracy
- - Extensive errors on Home Delivery and Customer Collections
- - Poor operational efficiency
SCALA undertook a full review of the supply arrangements and logistics operations and then advised on 'best practice solutions' subsequently managing a twelve month implementation change programme.
The change process resulted in:
- Improved stock accuracy and subsequent on shelf availability
- Implementation of WMS and Development of a computerised ordering system
- Doubling of on-site storage through better storage systems
- Improved operational efficiency with 20% staff reduction
- Improved customer service on home delivery
- Restructuring of management team and staff roles
