Background & Brief

The client had relocated its warehousing and distribution activity to a new logistics partner and location and had experienced a very serious level of disruption over a number of months. Whilst the operation had stabilised there were still concerns as to the future stability of the operation and SCALA were appointed to identify solutions that would provide an immediate and scalable contingency should the operation have further issues. The client had a diverse range of products being sourced from 7 locations servicing a wide customer base including major retailers, Discounters, Convenience and Food Service customers.

Project Approach

  • Understand the clients business – supply chain flows, customer profiles, volumes, ITT capabilities and the existing outsourced logistics operation.
  • Agreed & clarified the scope of potential contingency solutions eg impact on current logistics partner.
  • High level review of potential contingencies and through workshops with customer narrowed down to a limited number of realistic potential contingencies
  • Evaluation of the contingencies – complexity, speed/effort of implementation, scalability, impact on costs.
  • Final recommendation of contingency.

  • The project gave a full review of potential contingencies and provide a final recommendation.
  • Whilst not part of the brief an evaluation of the current solution was provided together with a predicted likely future state.
  • Whilst not part of the brief SCALA provided an overall “sense check” on their logistics strategy.
  • Final Outcome

    The client fully understood what contingencies were available to them and had a recommendation contingency for implementation with laid out next steps. In addition they received a summary evaluation of their current solution with a lay down of the likely future landscape.
